Like Getting a Tooth Removed, posted February 3, 2009 at 10:42 PM

Who could have ever expected that I'd have two posts in one week about the intersection of journalism and medicine? After my little takedown of the NY Times article about our health commissioner's salt-reduction plan just a few days ago, here I am writing about a new surgical procedure and one really lame attempt to report on it.

Last thing I did at work today before shutting down my computer was a quick round of news websites to see what was going on in the world. At CNN their top story was a health article under the headline: Healthy Kidney Removed Through Donor's Vagina. One must assume that some editor was either falling asleep on the job or was having a bit of fun with regards to the ancient concept of vagina dentata when he allowed the story to be published with a lede like this:

Vagina-Dentata.png

Oh man, how many teeth has this woman had removed from her vagina?!

UPDATE 2/4/09 10:30am:
Last night, the laugh I got from this journalistic slip of the, uh, tongue... inspired me to watch via Netflix streaming a modern retelling of the vagina dentata myth called Teeth. I'm here to tell you that this is the worst movie ever made and should be avoided at all costs.
